He was only 96 when I first met him. It was the first time I was in England to meet my wife's family. He was still living on his own, with some help from his son and daughter, but still going strong. He was a huge fan of Arsenal, but also very kean on watching Rugby. Fish and chips served with a cold beer was his favourite meal. He could tell lots of stories about the old days. Especially about the second world war, about the dog he found, and about playing football against other soldiers. But also the brilliant strory about visiting the old picture house, watching the news about the Titanic. Or playing alongside the traintrack of Strawberry Line. He could tell it like it was just yesterday. "My granddad was by far the kindest and sweetest person I ever met”; is what she told me. Als sportfysiotherapeut ben ik bezig met de bewegende mens. Sport is mijn passie, hardlopen mijn hobby. Als loper heb ik meerdere marathons afgelegd. Amsterdam (10x), Hoorn (3x), New York (1x) Rotterdam (1x) en de Berenloop (4x). In 2010 heb ik de Roparun gelopen en 2012 ben ik gestart in de West Coast Challenge. Twee keer ben ik uitgestapt bij een marathon, maar het heeft me gemaakt tot wie ik ben; een loper die graag relativeert en filosofeert. En vaak nog voor het goede doel ook!
